Beta VersionBeta Version: New in Omniscope 2.4Major new features available in version 2.4 are outlined below. To install this version, select version 2.4 (beta) on the downloads page. DataPlayers for export (DataPlayer & Enterprise Edition)DataPlayers are innovative combinations of data, images, maps, and dynamic filters in standard Flash .SWF files. Starting with version 2.4, Omniscope Professional and Enterprise Editions have an additional DataPlayer View that permits the creation, editing and updating of exportable Flash DataPlayers. DataPlayers are standard Flash .SWF files that can be exported from Omniscope and inserted into documents and/or web pages. Every Omniscope file can include configured exportable interactive 'dashboards' that refresh every time the Omniscope file is opened. Although DataPlayers do not scale up to millions of rows as Omniscope files can, they are an extremely useful option for exporting aggregated and otherwise selected subsets of Omniscope data in a universally-accessible, interactive Flash format. The maximum number of records that will perform well inside a DataPlayer depends on both the content and the configuration of the DataPlayer. In general, 5000 records or less will perform very well. Depending on content and configuration, 10,000 record (and beyond) DataPlayers are possible. The best way to determine how your data will perform with various record counts inside the DataPlayer is to use the free 30-day trial to make some for testing.
More information on DataPlayers with live examples by view type is here. Answers to frequently asked questions about DataPlayers are here. Data animation using the Cycling ToolbarStarting with version 2.4, there is a Cycling Toolbar accessible from the Controls drop-down on the Main Toolbar. The Cycling Toolbar permits you to configure files to open with animated sequential highlighting of records, sequential displays of subsets by values, and sequential display of report tabs...or any combination of these three cycling options.
More information on configuring and using the options on the Cycling Toolbar. Data aggregation within viewsAggregation was previously available only in the Table View in the form of Grouping options. Beginning with version 2.4, Omniscope supports display and export of aggregated data in several different views, not just the Table View. For most Views, the new Aggregation View Toolbar menu permits the fields (columns) to be aggregated upon to be specified, along with the aggregation function to be applied to each of the other columns. A preview window at the bottom of the menu enables you to see the effects of various aggregations, and the aggregated data sets can be exported as new .IOK or Excel files using the View Tools: > Export View Data option. Grouping options are only available in the Table View, and can be used on top of defined aggregations to allow users roll-up and roll-down accress to more or less granular views of the data. Named QueriesStarting with version 2.4, Omniscope supports saving any pattern of filter settings as a Named Query. Users can then compare different subsets of records (rows) in any view by specifying the Named Queries to be displayed. Named Queries can also be used to create multiple 'baskets', which can be based on Side Bar filter settings, or selections of individual records which can be cumulatively added to specified queries/baskets. For example, "Errors for investigation" or "My shopping basket" can be defined as Named Queries and filled interactively. Venn ViewThe Venn View is based on the familiar Venn diagram, and shows the overlaps between up to 5 different subsets of your data, which you define as Named Queries. Records not included in any of the Named Queries are shown as 'Outside'. The Venn View can display overlapping record counts for up to five Named Queries.

On the download page, for recent versions of Omniscope 2.4, you can now select "Windows (64-bit)" under the section entitled "Also available for". This installer provides far greater capabilities in terms of data volume than the standard 32-bit version, but requires a 64-bit processor (most are) and a 64-bit version of Windows (x64 version of XP, 2003 or Vista) available from Microsoft, often at no extra cost. Platforms/machines running 32-bit operating systems limit maximum Omniscope file size to about 1.2 million records because 32-bit addresses are unable to provide Omniscope with access to more than about 1 GB of installed RAM. Running Omniscope on 64-bit platforms removes this Windows-imposed limit (just like using longer telephone numbers permits more numbers to be issued). On 64-bit platforms, Omniscope will scale up to multi-million record capability on machines with 4 or more GB of installed RAM. The current 64-bit version of Omniscope has a few limitations, however. For more information, see our Knowledge Base articles on Scaling & Performance, Scaling Omniscope and Configuring for 64-bit Platforms. Web Start deployment options (Enterprise Edition only)Starting with version 2.4, Enterprise Editions will permit Omniscope files to be deployed as 'no-installation' or 'zero-footprint' client-side temporary (cached) Omniscope Online downloads. This new feature permits Enterprise licensees to distribute Omniscope files to audiences who do not yet have free Viewers installed, and who may not have the installation privileges required to add the free Viewer to their desktops unaided. Java Web Start 'no-installation' or 'zero-footprint' deployment is superior to applets. Improved, real-time Bloomberg ConnectorBased on requests from our users, we are steadily improving the Bloomberg integration of Omniscope. In version 2.4, Bloomberg refresh is much improved, and more additions to integration options for users running on PCs with access to Bloomberg are planned. Expanded language supportVersion 2.4 now supports English (US & UK), French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and, only visible on the experimental (<90% complete) menu, also Dutch and Russian. It is easy to add or edit translations. For more information, see the Translation Guide.
